Book Review:

My Review:

What started out as a memoir written for her sons became a published book for all Christian women who seek the Heart of God, and the fruits of His Spirit.  I anxiously awaited this book to arrive, since the “Fruits of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23) are not only  favorite verses of mine, but the verses my family used to show the character of my Mother at her funeral service.

I will admit it wasn’t what I had envisioned it to be. Yet once opened I found the book an easy and delightful read. I smiled (and agreed) when the first line of the book stated “I am a mess” and goes on to say, “Life has it challenges. Life is a challenge.”  Deanna was open and honest in sharing her own life stories. Stories which might may not be exactly like mine, but in some sense resembled many of my own experiences.

Probably the chapter I related to the most was Chapter Five: Kindness. Counseling.  In it she describes her and her husband’s premaritial counseling. I chuckled as I read down through the paragraphs. Even as painstaking as that task was, they came away with solid, sound advice.  She states, “Kurt and I left with simple, yet profound advice: Try every day to do something unexpected, something special, something unspoken and unselfish for the other person.”

At the end of the day or should I say book, I appreciate how Deanna “reframed” the stories in her life which she perhaps regretted and how she is learning to live in the light of God’s Grace. A place where as she wrote is “not overlooking the fruit of His Holy Spirit that’s already been apart of my own spirit.”

This world is so easy to beat us down, like Deanna we all need to reflect and remember God has been and continues to work in us and through us, if we allow. Deanna’s honesty helped me reflect and reframe areas in my own life. I trust it will do the same in yours. Thank you, Deanna!

This 112 page book is a short, easy read. The books I read as part of the CWA Review Crew will be passed on to other’s that will benefit from the message.  ( Even committing to not highlighting and marking in it so it can be pass it on! ) 🙂 Come Tuesday, June 5th. I will draw a random name from the comments left on this Book Review post and the Fruit of My Spirit may be yours.  Leave your email in your comment, so I can notify the winner!!

About the Author:  Deanna Nowadnick

Deanna Nowadnick

When not writing, Deanna serves as Client Service Coordinator for The Planner’s Edge, a financial advisory firm. Deanna is active in her church, playing the violin and editing the monthly newsletter. She loves to knit, adores chocolate, and most importantly, enjoys a blessed marriage to Kurt. They are the proud parents of two adult sons, Kyle and Kevin.

Deanna is currently working on Book 2. Signs in Life: Meeting God at the Corner of Grace and Mercy tells of those times when God has come alongside and guided, directed and turned her. The book is another collection of short stories, this time recounting how God has met her at life’s crossroads, when she’s been “on point” with God, not because of anything she’s done, but because a loving, gracious, merciful
God was there time after time, again and again.
